Quebec City Trip

Saint Anne De Beaupre Church & Montmorency Falls

This is my first official blog post so I hope you all like it and enjoy learning about the history and my experiences with visiting Montmorency Falls and Saint Anne De Beaupre Church in Quebec City.  First things first, they’re both beautiful places to visit and if you get a chance to go to Quebec City it’s definitely a must to see!  Unlike Niagara Falls, the Montmorency Falls is 30m (98ft) taller, but it’s slimmer than the falls we’re used to seeing. With the fall’s appearance being slimmer, they were able to build a bridge that goes from one end to the other to enhance the visitor’s experience by being able to see it from all directions, like shown in the photo above. The falls are also the mouth of Montmorency River where it drops over the cliff shore into the Saint Lawrence River.  There are a couple unknown facts about the falls as well, such as it being apart of the key scene between the lead actors in the 1947 film ‘Whispering City’ and as well being the location used for the Ice Hotel in its first year of business, which has grown increasingly popular over the years.

After visiting the falls we made our way on a bus tour to go see a local bakery, copper artisan shop and a chocolate store before heading to the top of the hill to see the Saint Anne De Beaupre Church. This church is one the biggest and most artistically beautiful churches I have seen in my travels thus far, with its stain glass windows, painted ceilings and wall with artwork and amazing architecture, it would be a shame to miss it when traveling through Quebec City. The church is set along the Saint Lawrence River and was said to be built for two reasons, to provide a place of worship for the settlers in that area and to house the miraculous statue of Saint Anne to honour and preserve her story.  It has been credited by the Catholic Church that alot of miracles have happened there to cure the sick and disabled, so many in fact that the pillars in the front entrance are covered in crutches and canes from people who have been miraculously cured from the ailment that was affecting them.  It was such an inspiring thing to see in the church, that it just enhances your experience while walking through the halls to make anyone believe in the possibility of miracles and the unknown.

For anyone traveling to Quebec City, make sure you put these two destinations on your itinerary, you will definitely not regret it, and it will just make your trip all that much more special and enjoyable.
